This course will have three different paths. If it is your first time in 465 you will chose a structured syllabus of either a utilitarian direction or a sculptural direction.
If you are repeating the course and continuing on in Ceramics you will FOCUS ON A BODY OF WORK
FOCUS
ON A BODY OF UTILITARIAN WORK
Objectives:
1. Conceptual: To build on your knowledge
of historical and contemporary ceramics from around the world and begin more
personal research directed towards influences within the context of
contemporary utilitarian work.
2. Visual: To further enhance your
awareness of form and surface in utilitarian ceramics.
FOCUS
ON A BODY OF SCULPTURE
Objectives:
1. Conceptual: To build on your knowledge of
historical and contemporary ceramics from around the world and begin more
personal research directed towards influences within the context of
contemporary sculpture from all media but with a focus on ceramics.
2. Visual: To further enhance your awareness
of form and surface in ceramics.
3. Skill Base: To continue to grow your
skills in handbuilding and understanding of the use of the wheel in sculpture
along with skill building and a broader understanding of firing and clay and
glaze formulation.
FOCUS
ON A BODY OF WORK
Sculpture,
Utilitarian, Installation, or Performance,
Objectives:
1. Conceptual: To focus on a historical or
contemporary ceramics trend and dedicate time towards more personal research
within the context of contemporary work.
2. Visual: To further enhance your
awareness of form and surface in the media of ceramics and other personal
interests.
3. Skill Based: To continue to grow your
skills on the wheel and with techniques in handbuilding and to continue to gain
a broader understanding of firing and clay and glaze formulation.
